JOB This position is advertised from the minimum to the maximum hourly rate.
Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.
NATURE OF WORK Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in technical civil engineering both in the field and office, reviewing and verifying that project contract work meets prescribed standards.
This position has department specific responsibility.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (Illustrative Only) Inspects construction project work activities, documents and permits; schedules materials testing; reviews and approves contractor invoices to assure compliance with contract specifications and plans; prepares drawings, designs, plots, and plans of civil engineering projects; conducts traffic engineering research; examines plans for clearance with existing and proposed improvements following design standards; checks plans for clearance of substructures and existing or proposed improvements; prepares and maintains technical reports and estimates for engineering sites; performs design and construction contract management, and completes project documentation; produces and maintains technical records, reports, estimates and administrative records; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; the principles, theory and practice of civil engineering, construction, and surveying; methods, procedures and techniques used in road and bridge construction inspection, survey, materials testing and documentation; materials and equipment used for road and bridge construction; methods, procedures and techniques for evaluating construction contract compliance; cost analysis procedures for construction materials and equipment.
materials testing in both field and laboratory setting; the application of engineering theory to complex field and office problems; construction techniques and quality control procedures; technical drafting principles, and interpreting and utilizing engineering plans, maps and specifications.
Skill in: analyzing and evaluating technical engineering data and construction documentation; interpreting and implementing agency standards, policies, procedures, and regulations; the use of surveying and drawing instruments in the application of engineering theory to practical field and office problems; preparing reports and checking designs, details, estimates, plans, and specification of engineering projects; establishing effective working relationship with consultants, contractors, other agencies and the public; communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to: communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; follow written and verbal instructions.
planning and organizing work; lift 10 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, stand and walk; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing.
Working at a computer monitor for extended periods required.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
