Job Summary This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate.
Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.
NATURE OF WORK Under general supervision, performs professional library work of moderate difficulty in the Information Services Division; performs related work as required or assigned.
This position has department specific responsibility.
Hours may vary (Monday – Saturday) depending on the needs of the Library District.
Example of Work (Illustrative Only) Provides customer service and reference service as needed at the Information desk or elsewhere; responds to inquiries from the public that come into the Main Library; may be responsible for the Book Clubs and reading events; may participate in meetings and activities with outside agencies and organizations Participates in promoting public library services to the local community; makes presentations at meetings, workshops, and community events; assists with the design, setup, and take down of Library displays; collects and analyzes data and produces statistical reports as needed by Administration and/or outside agencies; may assist with the preparation and submission of grants proposals and monitor the expenditure of grant funds received; may plan, assist with, and/or teach computer classes and other programs/training on a variety of topics; assists with library Collection Development; compiles reports, bibliographies, and search guides; assists patrons with technology issues; provides support for copy machines and computer use; may be responsible for the management of the periodicals, song index, resources, maps, or other specialized area, etc; may supervise assigned volunteers; may be assigned to a specific area of focus; The Business Librarian manages business and economic materials and resources and plans and implements related workshops, and programs.
Promotes the Library’s business resources to the community; participates in job and career fairs and other outreach and events.
The Special Services Librarian manages the special needs materials and resources and plans and implements related workshops and programs.
Updates the Library’s Disabled in Yuma publication.
Participates in related outreach events and meetings.
The Special Collections Librarian manages the Arizona collection at the Main Library and the Archives located at the Heritage Library.
Assists patrons with historical research.
Presents related programs, including programs on genealogy; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited college or university preferred; OR a Master’s degree in a closely related field; AND two (2) years of experience in a library environment; OR a baccalaureate degree and four (4) years of experience in a library environment; OR any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain valid Arizona driver’s license.
Requires successful completion of a background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Books, authors, and electronic information sources; the principles and practices of modern librarianship; reader interest levels; youth psychology relating to public library services; library information tools including print resources and computer databases; authors, materials, and selection tools; the principles and practices of business.
Skill in: Computer operations and automated systems; providing effective customer-oriented service; teaching the use of business resources; providing instruction in the use of computer and print information resources; utilizing current reference tools in information services; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; conducting research using computerized databases, including Internet; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; supervising the work of staff.
Ability to utilize current reference tools in information services; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; to conduct research using computerized databases, including Internet; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; stand or sit for long periods of time (up to 6 – 7 hours); lift at least 20 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, and/or kneeling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing.
Working at a computer monitor for extended periods required.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under extreme likelihood of verbal abuse from hostile and frustrated customers.

00 annual contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card.
Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan.
The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
