Plus, excellent fringe benefits QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Criminal Justice or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice Five years of criminal justice experience Preferred: Master's degree or higher in Criminal Justice with three years of criminal justice experience plus 3 years of teaching experience in higher education Three years of teaching in higher education Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college Ability to relate well to learners of different ages and multi-cultural backgrounds Demonstrated sensitivity to needs of students, faculty and staff from diverse and multicultural backgrounds Position Type & Work Schedule: Accountable for 33 hours per week Exempt position-9 months May be required to teach on various campuses, via in-person, online, hybrid, and virtual learning environments Course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures Knowledge of trends, developments, new technologies affecting the Homeland Security program Knowledge of curriculum and program development Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications Skill in integrating technology into curriculum and other educational services, including the college's designated learning management system Skill in instructing students from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students' needs and progress Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in a typical classroom or office setting Physical Demands: Sitting for prolonged periods of time, viewing a monitor Standing for prolonged periods of time in a classroom or outreach event Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist Travel: May be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation Note: Yuma Benefit eligible Position is in partnership with Southwest Technical Education of Yuma (STEDY) Teaching and reporting location will be determined upon need for programming and partnership and may be at an AWC, STEDY, or local high school district designated location SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Faculty members, both full-time and adjunct, are involved in continuous assessment and engaged in expanding teaching methodologies and delivery systems to improve student academic success and retention.
Full-time faculty will follow an 80-10-10 model, where they actively participate in departmental/divisional meetings and activities, in student recruitment/retention/advisement activities, in community/partner relationships, and in activities that promote and support the district-wide academic goals of the local populations and the College.
Faculty may be asked to teach on various campuses, via in-person, online, hybrid, and virtual learning environments, as directed by the needs of the community for a given semester; course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends.
This position operates in collaboration with STEDY in a 50-50 shared capacity.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Teaching Responsibility: Serves students.
Teach 15 credit equated load hours/semester develop and grade exams and instruments to evaluate student learning and progress; submission of student grades/progress as required by the programs/policies of the Instruction area.
Maintain a min of 5 office hours/week/semester load and direct interaction with students in a formal learning environment for a 15 equated load hour schedule.
Remain current in his/her discipline, updating course content when appropriate.
Maintain standard syllabus/outline for each course, in accordance with program/procedures.
Update course syllabus/outline annually.
Working with Dean and Departmental faculty, develop and implement processes and tools for assessment of teaching and student learning outcomes incorporating appropriate methodologies and technology.
In collaboration with colleagues and the Director of Curriculum, Assessment, & Scheduling and under the guidance of the Dean, develop a system for evaluation of teaching and learning including course competency expectations and student outcome measures.
Working with the Dean, incorporate results of assessments to modify instruction and materials.
College Responsibility: Collaborating with the Dean, division Faculty, and the Director of Curriculum, Assessment, & Scheduling to identify student-leaning outcomes; develop assessment processes and tools; incorporate results to enhance/modify instruction and material, degree program, course cluster, and/or certificate program as appropriate.
Working and coordinating with Student Services and the Dean actively participate in student recruitment, retention, and advisement activities and programs.
Participation in institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, task forces, club sponsorships, facilitation of advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and associate faculty.
Participation may be directed by the Dean.
Maintain 10 positive interaction hours/week.
Attend graduation ceremonies.
Serve as a resource for faculty members.
Community Responsibility: Participate in professional developmental activities outside the College, such as but not limited to, community events, boards, clubs, and conferences.
Coordinate such participation with the Dean or Chief Executive Officer of Entrepreneurial College & Vice President of Workforce & Healthcare, as appropriate.
Serve on local and state advisory committees as directed by the Dean.
Additional Responsibility: Participate in adjunct faculty recruitment.
Serve as a resource for adjunct faculty.
Budget for equipment, materials, and supplies to support courses of primary responsibility.
Assist with maintaining and securing equipment in the classroom or laboratory.
Develop and conduct field trips.
Work with Department and Division faculty to help develop and support intern, research, and work experiences for students at all levels.
Develop an active program of study that will complement and extend the current science offerings in Yuma.
Support and participate in strategic initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
