#24-014 POSTING DATE: April 16, 2024 POSITION: Outreach & Instruction Librarian SALARY: $50,544 – 53,577 per year, depending on experience.
Plus, excellent fringe benefits QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution (obtained within 6 months of hire) Preferred: 2 years of experience in a library setting Strong service orientation Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and collegial framework, and to foster this ability in others Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse populations Excellent verbal and written communication skills Classification: Exempt Position Type & Work Schedule: Full-time, 12 months Monday – Friday / 5 days, 75 hours bi-weekly Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow and operating procedures Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, and library related database and management systems Skill in effectively managing one’s own time Skill in incorporating and utilizing computer and computer-based technologies Ability to demonstrate and engage in optimal instructional practices and skills Ability to organize, work independently, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail while contributing to team environment Ability to provide support and assistance for diverse populations in a professional and supportive manner Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public Work Environment: Inside office environment with normal noise and lighting levels Work is performed in an open office environment with staff contact and frequent interruptions Working environment may include various indoor and outdoor locations and situations determined by departmental needs Physical Demands: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Prolonged periods of standing May lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate (at least 15 pounds) amounts of weight Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist Travel: May be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation Note: Yuma Campus Benefit eligible SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Oversees Library Marketing on campus and Information Literacy Instruction.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Serves Students.
Collaborates with the Distance Education Librarian in coordinating the library's information literacy program to include current and emerging instructional technologies and techniques.
Aids in coordinating with full-time librarians regarding instruction and promoting current and emerging literacies.
Works collaboratively with the librarians and faculty to develop face-toface and online learning content, materials, and methods.
As a team, create interactive learning experiences encompassing traditional, online, hybrid, and other forms of instruction.
Assesses learning outcomes and information literacy competencies by collaborating with colleagues while considering the range of student levels.
Takes a leadership role in library programming and marketing the library in conjunction with the Circulation Department.
Oversees the library's events and other innovative techniques to engage students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Develops and delivers a range of creative and informative student engagement experiences, including coordinating the library’s participation in campus-wide student orientation activities and hosting special events.
Promotes library activities within the AWC community and collaborates on campus-centered and college-wide cooperative initiatives to showcase the library.
Participates as a member of the library reference team.
Analyzes information needs by utilizing reference interviewing techniques.
Develops and maintains knowledge of, and skills in, using information resources in all formats to effectively assist library users with their research needs.
Provides reference assistance and research support for faculty, staff, and students at all academic levels, in add disciplines, and for community users.
Maintains awareness of communication needs and modalities and varying levels of knowledge of learners.
Promotes the development of information literacy skills in interactions with library users.
Works with the librarian team to select library materials including electronic resources.
Assess and evaluate materials for purchase in designated subject areas by conferring with colleagues, faculty, and students, and consulting professional reviews.
Reviews collection and evaluates for preservation and de-selection.
Acts as a liaison to select departments, divisions, and committees across the campus to facilitate communication between those parties and the library.
Represents the library and college locally, regionally, and nationally at relevant professional development opportunities.
Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
