POSTING DATE: February 8, 2024 POSITION: PT - Tutor I, Student Success Center SALARY: $15.
00 per hour QUALIFICATIONS: Required: • Exceptional skills in an academic area taught at Arizona Western College as demonstrated per faculty recommendation and/or high academic achievement (minimum grade of “B”) in the subject area to be tutored • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.
0 • Math tutors must have completed MAT 142/150 or a higher-level math course; writing tutors must have completed ENG 102 • A combination of relevant experience and/or education may be considered for appropriate openings Preferred: • Associate’s or higher degree • Bilingual English/Spanish • Experience as a full-time AWC student • Experience tutoring or teaching in a professional/educational setting Additional Eligibility Requirements: • Must be CRLA Level 1 certified or complete EDU 102 Tutor Seminar one-credit course within the same semester employed.
Classification: • Non-exempt Position Type & Work Schedule: • Part-time, no more than 19 hours per week • Hours may vary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures • Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, and virtual meeting platforms • Skill in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information • Ability to analyze problems, identifies solutions, and takes appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes • Ability to demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills • Ability to work with diverse populations • Ability to assess and understand learning preferences and styles • Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail • Ability to adhere to assigned work schedules, including required meetings and trainings • Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public Work Environment: • Office environment • Moderate noise level Physical Demands: • Sitting or standing for long periods of time • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Travel: • No travel required Note: • Not benefit eligible SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Provides academic support to students of Arizona Western College in particular subject area(s) through multiple modalities.
Promotes a growth mindset toward student learning and persistence to achieve academic goals.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Serves students.
Assists students in person and online with homework assignments, test preparation, study strategies, use of technology, or other areas related to coursework at Arizona Western College.
Creates or prescribes appropriate supplemental learning activities based on assessment of student knowledge gaps.
Provides information to the student body and/or public regarding the Student Success Center and/or Math/Writing Center through classroom visits, resource fairs, or other marketing strategies.
Facilitates or participates in tutor training seminars.
Creates supplemental material such as handouts, presentations, etc.
, to support student learning.
Plans and presents workshops based on student needs, or faculty/supervisor requests.
Documents tutorial sessions and other student interactions.
Communicates regularly with supervisor and/or faculty member(s) through debriefing sessions.
Uses feedback and reflection to improve practice.
May direct work of work-study/college payroll employees in the absence of a supervisor.
Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
