_*GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:*_ This position is responsible for directing, developing, and overseeing the environmental, health and safety policies and procedures for Dole Fresh Vegetables (DFV), ensuring that all practices are following federal, state and county regulations including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, and DOT over multiple states.
Provide direction in all aspects of Risk Management, but primarily in the area of Workers Compensation, including working directly with third party administrators and legal team to negotiate and settle claims.
_*MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:*_ * Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing environmental, health and safety.
* Responsible for the implementation of all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
* Interface with regulatory agencies to including CHP, EPA, OSHA, and DOT.
* Conduct safety and environmental audits in all operating facilities, including PHA, PSM and OSHA programs.
* Respond and provide direction in all emergency situations.
* Ensure all recordkeeping is timely and conforms to company’s mandate.
* Manage all Workers’ Compensation claims, general liability claims, auto liability claims, treatment authorization, litigation review and closures.
* Ensure that the TPA manages the claims diligently, partner with Risk Management and Legal (internal and external) to manage relevant claim details, implement plan for timely resolution of claims.
* Serve as trainer on workers’ compensation policies and fraud throughout the organization.
* Serve as the DFV liaison with contracted medical providers.
Ensure that all company expectations are being pursued and that drug testing protocols are in order.
* Coordinate claim file reviews with third party adjusters and insurance brokers in multiple states.
* Ensure efficient records maintenance for workers’ compensation claims and related information and data.
* Act as the point of notification and contact regarding any incident or injury that could or has resulted in a Workers’ Compensation claim.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills _*JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:*_ * 8-10 years preferred in safety management.
* 3-5 years’ experience in workers’ compensation preferable in self-insured program, in the states of California, Ohio and North Carolina.
* Strong background in OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations at the federal and state level.
* Knowledge of the entire claim’s administration, case management and cost containment solution as applicable to Workers’ Compensation.
* Working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems and regulatory requirements.
* Ability to make decisions and be process and results driven.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form.
* Bilingual/biliterate English/Spanish * Strong leadership, management skills.
* Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; to gather and analyze information skillfully.
_*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*_ * Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones and utilize a variety of office equipment.
Ability to lift, stand, stoop, and perform otherwise physical functions required in normal office settings.
_*WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:*_ * Ability to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts preferred/required, on-call to receive notification of serious accidents.
* Limited travel required.
Required Experience _*EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:*_ * Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in occupational health and environmental safety or a related field * Most Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by Board of Certified Safety Professional and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by American Board of Industrial Hygiene * Knowledge of federal and state Workers Compensation laws *PAY RATE:* * California- $150,000-$160,000 Annually * Arizona- $140,000-$150,000 Annually * Ohio- $140,000-$150,000 Annually _EEO STATEMENT: We are an equal opportunity employer.
