3352 Summary: The Charge Respiratory Therapist, with guidance of the Manager, is responsible for supervising, facilitating, coordinating, coaching, and managing, with the care teams, the use of supplies, equipment, to meet desired patient outcomes and to promote professional development in an inpatient setting.
The Charge Therapist functions within the permissible and evolving scope of respiratory therapy practice as defined by the Arizona Board of Respiratory Care and YRMC’s policies and standards of professional organizations.
This individual serves to continually mentor and train staff and is responsible for maintaining appropriate databases through collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, hospital administration, information services, medical records, and biomedical engineering.
The Charge Therapist is accountable for human resource management, financial management, and quality management for department and programs within incumbent’s responsibility in support of the mission, vision and strategic objectives of YRMC.

Responsibilities: Serves as a moral agent in identifying and helping to resolve ethical and clinical concerns within and outside the clinical setting while representing the balanced concerns of Yuma Regional Medical Center, the patient/family and employees and assures compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
Advocates from patient/family/ employee perspective while protecting the interests of Yuma Regional Medical Center, and assists in the resolution of moral/ethical and other conflicts or issues that arise, especially if the individual is unable to advocate for themselves.
Identifies employees, patient and/or family who are experiencing issues and accesses proper resources to assist in the resolution of the conflict, seeks for win-win relationships between groups, ensures practice provided on the unit is consistent with the American Association of Respiratory Care "Code of Ethics for Respiratory Therapists" and assures compliance with regulatory/ professional standards.
Demonstrates the sensitivity to recognize, appreciate and incorporate differences into the work setting and through the provision of care provided on the unit; differences may include, but are not limited to, cultural differences, spiritual beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, age and values; recognizes and practices within the code of ethics for applicable specialty organizations; embraces and encourages diversity within the workplace; honors and values the strengths that differences bring into practice; assists in helping employees involve patient(s) and family in-goal setting and teaching; demonstrates how to explore relationships with the interdisciplinary care team and addresses appropriate implementation/ documentation in treatment plan; acts as a mentor regarding values, cultural and spiritual diversity.
Evaluates practice of care provided on the unit by employees, including oneself; creates practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning that meets standards of practice; ensures the success of unit and/or organizational efforts/goals to achieve optimal patient outcomes based on identified initiatives/interventions; reviews variance/incident reports, Press Ganey, and other data to identify trends in patient care; accesses databases available for resources to support practice; creates and prioritizes action items to improve results; develops and/or instructs Evidence-Based Practice courses or EBP modules in collaboration with the Research Council; mentors students and/or new staff in evidence based practice; questions and/or evaluates current practice based on patient's responses and improves or individualizes care based on review of literature, research and best practice.
Recognizes patterns and similarities in patient presentations and effectively collaborates with staff in management of patient care; processes large quantities of information, which at times may be inaccurate and sketchy to draw up as accurate as possible a picture of the situation at hand.
Recognizes and filters the right information to pro-actively resolve the issues; rapidly prioritizes and manages the unit based on patient acuity, staffing availability and other issues.
Identifies most urgent needs and prioritizes effectively under stressful or less than optimal conditions; promotes the continuity of care across patient delivery settings when patient moves from one unit to another; delegates assignments effectively according to the five rights for delegation: right task, right circumstance, right person, right direction, and right supervision; assigns or delegates' tasks based on the needs/condition of the patient, potential for harm, unit dynamics, and task complexity; leads teams through transitions and adapts leadership style to situations to achieve desired outcomes; serves as a clinical resource in difficult or changing situations; positively motivates others.
